From Doing to Being: Unlocking the Power of Play

In the relentless rush of modern life, we’re conditioned to do—to juggle endless tasks, meet deadlines, and fulfill the roles we’ve been assigned. But in this whirlwind of responsibilities, we’ve lost something precious: the art of being. We’ve swapped play for productivity, joy for obligation, and our inner truth for the expectations of others. Today, I invite you to pause, breathe, and embark on a journey to rediscover your sovereignty through play, presence, and the courage to put yourself first.
The Heavy Cost of Constant Doing
Our lives are woven with responsibilities—work, family, social obligations—that tether us to roles we play for others. These demands are real and often necessary, but they can drown out the quiet voice of our true selves. When was the last time you let yourself play, just for the sake of it? Not to check a box or impress someone, but to lose yourself in a moment of pure, unfiltered joy?
Think back to a time when you were alone, free to do whatever sparked delight. Maybe it was dancing to your favorite song, doodling in a notebook, or wandering through nature without a plan. That’s the essence of play—a gateway to your sovereignty. Play reminds us that we’re not here just to perform for others but to honor the unique gifts and dreams we carry. So, let’s dream a little:
What’s the life you envision for yourself?
Picture a version of you that’s fully in your power, living with contentment and play. What does that look like?
Breaking Free: Identifying What Holds You Back
To step into that vision, we need to get honest about what’s standing in the way. Take a moment to reflect:
What’s stopping me from being in my power right now? Is it fear of judgment, overwhelming schedules, or the weight of guilt?
What do I need to do differently to carve out non-negotiable time for myself?
Too often, we squash the desire for “me time” before it can even take root. We convince ourselves there’s no room—that we can’t because of work, family, or other pressures. But what if we challenged that narrative? What if, for just 15 minutes a day, you gave yourself permission to let go of the “shoulds” and reconnect with yourself? It’s not about adding another task to your plate; it’s about claiming a small, sacred space to play with the idea of freedom.
A Playful Practice: 15 Minutes to Reconnect
Let’s make it simple. Commit to 15 minutes a day of playful presence—a practice that brings you back to your breath, your truth, and the child within you. This isn’t about rigid meditation or another “to-do.” It’s about creating space for joy and rediscovery. Here’s how to start:
Find Your Sanctuary: Choose a quiet spot where you feel safe and undisturbed—a corner of your home, a park bench, or even your car.
Set a Timer: Give yourself 15 minutes. No pressure, no expectations—just presence.
Breathe and Play: Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and let your mind wander. Picture your inner child—the version of you who dreamed fearlessly and spoke truth without hesitation. What do they want to say? What dreams or joys do they hold? Let this be a playful exploration, like a conversation with an old friend.
Capture the Moment: Afterward, jot down any insights, feelings, or sparks of inspiration. What felt alive? What surprised you?
This practice is more than meditation—it’s a bridge to the beingness we’ve been taught to forget. Your inner child isn’t afraid to dream big or speak the truth. They hold the key to your long-term visions, your deepest desires, and the joy of simply existing. Over time, these 15 minutes can become a lifeline, helping you uncover what truly matters to you.
"We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing." - George Bernard Shaw
The Ripple Effect: Sharing Your Light
As you reconnect with your inner light, something beautiful happens: you feel called to share it. We’re in a transformative moment—a time of remembering and realigning with how life is meant to be. The spark within you is growing brighter, ready to inspire others. This is where community comes in.
Surround yourself with people who uplift your voice and celebrate your journey. Seek out circles—whether friends, support groups, or online communities—where expressing your truth is not just accepted but cherished. There’s no right or wrong way to walk this path, only your way, guided by the inner compass that’s lighting up. By sharing your wisdom, your play, and your dreams, you’re helping normalize the courage to live authentically. Together, we’re rewriting the rules, making space for everyone to shine.
Embracing Your Sovereignty
You are not defined by your roles or responsibilities. You are a sovereign being with unique gifts, a life to live, and a light to share. Reclaiming your power starts with small, intentional steps—like those 15 minutes of playful presence. Play more often. Laugh without guilt. Dream without limits. Your inner path is illuminating, and it’s time to follow it with joy and contentment.
Take Action Today: Commit to your 15-minute practice this week. What will you do to play and reconnect with your inner truth? Share your experience with a friend, journal about it, or join a community that celebrates your light. If you’re looking for inspiration, try asking yourself:
What’s one playful thing my inner child would love to do today? Then, make it happen—no matter how small.
Here’s to living, playing, and being—unapologetically, gloriously you.
